Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) spokesperson and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Anushakti Nagar constituency Nawab Malik today expressed confidence in retaining his seat in the upcoming elections for the Maharashtra legislative assembly.

"The party has confirmed my candidature so I am filing my nomination today. The way we have worked for the past five years, we are hopeful that we'll win with majority votes from Anushakti Nagar," said Malik.

Malik filed his nomination for the assembly elections from his Anushakti Nagar constituency before any formal announcement by the Congress-NCP alliance.

"We are hopeful that whatever decision will be taken today evening and whatever will be the situation, we will be the winners with majority votes. The people of Maharashtra and media will get the information of party's stand and decision by evening," Malik added.

The stalemate between the Congress and the NCP over seat sharing continues as the latter is not willing to contest in less than 136 seats. The Congress has reportedly offered only 125 seats to its ally, keeping the rest of the seats with itself of a total of 288 seats.

Polling in Maharashtra is scheduled to be held on October 15. The counting of votes will take place on October 19.
