The National Commission for Women has condemned the West Bengal State Government for no arrests in the elderly nun gang-rape case even after a week.

A three-member NCW team who visited the Jesus and Mary Convent School on Saturday expressed concern over the overall degrading law and order situation and lack of women's safety in the state.

Besides talking to the school authorities, they also discussed the measures to be taken to ensure women's safety in the district with the police.

NCW member Samina Shafiq said the West Bengal government has failed to ensure speedy justice in the case.

"This is something which we are really concerned about, that it's almost seven days now and no arrests has been made and we are going to talk to these authorities as to what is the situation right now and why they haven't arrested because apparently, as per the media reports, we see the pictures of the people are already on the camera, so the faces are seen and still now if no arrests have been made, why? That is one question we need to ask the police authorities and we are proceeding to ask them," said Shafiq.

The gang rape of the 75-year-old nun had sparked various protests from the Christian community, who questioned their safety in the country.
