The National Commission for Women (NCW) has demanded strict action against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Tapas Pal for his offensive threat to send his men to the homes of Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders to rape their women.
NCW Chairperson Mamta Sharma told ANI, "The way Pal spoke about this, it is so shameful. A public representative is responsible for women. First of all, he should be removed and strict action should be taken against him. Why has no FIR been lodged against him?"
Commenting on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's silence over the MP's threats, Sharma said, "The chief minister of the state is a woman, but she has kept silent on this issue. It is very wrong that this case is being played down because Pal belongs to the Trinamool Congress. Pal should be arrested because what he said was very wrong."
Pal had told a gathering in Krishnanagar, "I will send my boys to their (attackers) homes and ask them to rape their women. If any of our Trinamool men are touched I will ensure that the CPI (M) is finished and ensure that their homes are burnt off."
His remarks have generated a huge outrage amongst politicians and activists. While BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy termed Pal's statement as bizarre and unacceptable, Congress leader Shobha Ojha too demanded strong action against Pal.
