Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M.Venkaiah Naidu has said the NDA Government has had no role to play in the questioning of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh by the CBI in coal block allocation scam.

According to reports, the CBI recorded Dr. Singh's statement in connection with the alleged irregularities in the allocation of Talabira II coal block in Odisha to Hindalco in 2005.

Dr. Singh was then holding charge of the coal ministry.

On December 16 last year, a special CBI court in New Delhi had directed the CBI to examine Dr. Singh.

Congress said certain clarifications and information were sought which were given by the former Prime Minister in the best interests of the nation.

Party spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala said Dr Singh had steadfastly maintained he is ready to assist the investigation.

The BJP has welcomed the questioning of Dr. Manmohan Singh by the CBI in coal block allocation scam claiming that this became possible because of independent functioning of the agency under the present NDA Government.
