People in the NDMC (New Delhi Municipal Council) area need not fret any more. If they see any poor civic amenity, they only have to click and use a photo-based app to alert the civic agency.

This is one of the best practices using state of art and globally competitive technology being launched soon to improve the quality of life in the NDMC area for residents, visitors and tourists, said Jalaj Shrivastava.

"The mobile application is meant to address grievances regarding malfunctioning street lights or dirty streets and more," said Jalaj Shrivastava, Chairman, NDMC.

The Chairman said:" Wi-fi facility will be started in some of the more popular markets in the area, beginning with Khan Market. Connaught Place, Dilli Haat and Sarojini Nagar will follow.

The internet speed will be around 5 mbps and the band width will be set only after a month of observation. The wi-fi service will allow everyone to search and download and use internet for free for up to 15 minutes. Nominal charges will be applied after that time."

Shrivastava informed that another unique initiative will be a Smart Card that can be used to pay parking, water and electricity charges in the NDMC area.

Shrivastava said that the NDMC will launch a unit, called Urja, to help underprivileged women in the NDMC area.

"Beginning with 30 women beneficiaries, they will be encouraged first to start a tiffin service for the NDMC staff. They will also role out products of daily needs such as papad, pickles and masala," added Shrivastava.

A day boarding school will come up at New Moti Bagh or East Kidwai Nagar where students of NDMC schools can avail of extra tuition and good food.

This too will be primarily open to students from underprivileged families. NDMC is also planning "Pay and Use" drinking water ATMs.

Shrivastava said that finally, with a view to attract more and more people to its many gardens, NDMC has decided that parking at Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park and Talkatora Garden will be open till 11 p.m.

There will be attractive events including animated movies for children, short films on Delhi's cultural heritage and movies on innovate water screens in the leading parks.
