A day after 'Lipstick Under My Burkha' was denied certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for being 'lady oriented' and 'abusive', film director Alankrita Shrivastava says it is a matter of shame that she is a part of a society, where there is no freedom of expression.
Expressing her disappointment, the director told ANI, "The way CBFC has altogether denied us the certificate is a matter of shame because it makes me feel that we are a part of a society, where there is not freedom of expression."
"It's a story of women and their secrets. If CBFC has a problem with female point of view, it really makes me feel sad," Alankrita added.
Lashing out at the CBFC, the filmmaker said, it seems very odd that the CBFC has this kind of a mindset as the film is being welcomed worldwide and is being recognized for exactly the same reason that the CBFC wants to shut it down.
The film has been produced by Prakash Jha and stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur in lead roles.
The film premiered at the Tokyo and Mumbai Film Festivals, where it won the Spirit of Asia Prize and the Oxfam Award for best film on gender equality.
