North East Power Corporation (NEEPCO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) to upgrade three power projects in Tripura.
Two power projects - Baramura gas thermal power project and Rukhia gas thermal power plant - will be converted into combined cycle in order to raise power capacity without increasing the fuel consumption.
The other Dumbur hydro power project will undergo renovation to increase its power generation capacity.
Chairman-cum-managing director of NEEPCO, P.C. Pankaj, said this MoU will prove very beneficial as more power will be generated without increasing the tariff.
"The main advantage is that with the consumption of the gas which is being used right now, we will be generating about 60 MW (mega watt) more in the projects with the same quantity of gas. And I think the cost will be around Rs. 390 crores for these two projects and tariff will be around two rupees 50 paisa per unit. So, that will go down as per present tariff," said Pankaj.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.
