Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday equated India's contentment with that of Nepal, saying New Delhi cannot smile if Kathmandu is not happy.
"I am glad to have been able to come to Nepal once again. If Nepal is not happy, India cannot smile. Nepal's happiness gives us joy," he said while inaugurating the trauma centre here.
"India is always ready to help save lives here. It is an honour for us that we can get to save lives of our own people. This is a medium of service. I am happy that I have got the opportunity to be here," he added.
Expressing regret over his inability to visit Janakpur, Lumbini and Muktinath during the present tour, Prime Minister Modi said, "I apologise to the people of Janakpur, Lumbini and Muktinath. Due to the paucity of time, I am not able to visit those areas. If in the future I have some time, I shall definitely visit these areas."
The Prime Minister also announced the relaxation of the denomination of currency notes, which can be carried into Nepal.
"Now, the currency notes with denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 can be taken from India to Nepal for up to Rs 25,000," he declared.
In a statement prior to his departure for Kathmandu, Prime Minister Modi had said that the development of close relations with India's neighbours was a key priority for his government.
This is the Prime Minister's second visit to Nepal within four months.
