Pakistan has finally woken up to the threat posed by Islamic State infiltration in the country.
A fortnight after the New York Post published a report suggesting that Pakistan appeared unperturbed by the news of a deadly collaboration between the Pakistani Taliban and the Islamic State group, the country made it a point to demand extermination of the IS by the international community before the UN Security Council.
In a speech before the Security Council, Pakistan's Ambassador to the United Nations Masood Khan pushed for a collective stand and opposition against the IS' evil ideology of 'hate, murder and destroy', and said it was important to remain united in the fight against this new face of terrorism and violent extremism, the New York Post reported.
Kahn further urged the UN to "use all diplomatic means at their disposal to prevent further deterioration."
He also criticised the international community for not acting quick enough against this "rising tide of primeval barbarism and criminality," the report added.
