The opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Friday alleged that new chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda is more loyal to the ruling Awami League than his predecessor.
Chief Election Commissioner Huda's recent statement proves that he is a "committed Awami Leaguer", the Daily Star quoted BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi, as saying at a press conference in Dhaka.
He alleged that Huda's speeches are like that of an Awami League spokesperson.
"The new CEC has said that the parliament election should be held under an elected government. It's natural that the new CEC, who was an organiser of the Janatar Mancha, has spoken and will speak like an Awami League spokesperson," Rizvi said.
Demanding Huda's resignation, Rizvi said the next elections will be voter-less and one-sided if held under Huda's supervision.
Huda was appointed by President Abdul Hamid as CEC on February 6.
Four election commissioners were also appointed by the president.
