New home for former Tibetan prisoners in Dharamshala

Tibetan Prime Minister in-exile Lobsang Sangay on Wednesday inaugurated a shelter for the former political prisoners of Tibet in Dharamshala.

The Tibetan house has been built in dedication to the freedom fighters and political activists who fought for the cause of Tibet.

The shelter is largely funded by Vimala Association of Switzerland.

The security department of exile government has selected eleven

eligible individuals from thirty applications it received. There are total sixteen apartments of which eleven have been allotted.

Speaking to the media, Sangay said, "We are here to inaugurate the residence for former political prisoners. We have built the residence for them and we are glad that those who have sacrificed so much in Tibet have a place to stay."

The Tibetans inside Tibet and those who have braved and sacrificed a lot to resist and fight against repressive system are freedom fighters or the political activists and having done this sacrifice and major contribution many of them suffered a lot.

President of Vimala Association, Mimmi Guglielhone said, "A great idea of having the chance to give to these people who suffered so much, live their remaining part of life with peace. I am very happy, and the concept wherein we succeeded in making the life easier of at least these people fills our hearts."

Some of them were sent to prison, others suffered in such unbearable ways that they had to escape to India in the exile with a hope, thinking that, under the leadership of his holiness the Dalai Lama central Tibetan administration will take care of them like a family member.

A Buddhist nun, Nawang Jonpa, who had spent one month and three days in Chinese jail for protesting with five other nuns in Lhasa 1989 for the freedom of Tibet in conversation with ANI said, she is grateful to the initiative taken by the exile government of providing shelters to the sufferers of the Chinese prisons and conveyed her happiness to be sheltered at Dharamshala.
