Iranian president Hassan Rouhani has reportedly nominated a woman candidate for the office of vice president and if lawmakers approve the nomination, she will serve as Vice President for Legal Affairs.

According to the Huffington Post, Rouhani nominated Elham Aminzadeh's candidature for her 'scientific competence and judicial qualifications as well as legislative experience and moral merits'.

Aminzadeh is a professor at Tehran University and a former member of parliament and holds a doctorate in international law from the University of Glasgow.

Rouhani told legislators that their vote of confidence in them in the ministers is not just a vote for individuals but for the whole government and its plans.

The report added that Rouhani's cabinet selection largely consists of technocrats who previously worked in the administration of Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Mohammad Khatami.
