New ISI chief had called for Indo-Pak peace in 2008

The newly appointed Director General of the controversial Pakistani agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar in 2008 had argued for peace between India and Pakistan

According to reports, Akhtar, who will take over as the ISI chief on November 7, in his thesis for his master's degree had stated that "peaceful relations with India not only improved regional stability but would also alleviate international concerns" and had called for Pakistan to "aggressively pursue rapprochement with India".

The ISI is believed to have provided arms and training to terrorists, including those involved in the Mumbai attacks of 2008.
