A new smart parking sensor system will help drivers locate an open spot easily.

The system, made by the firm Smart Parking, uses infrared sensors called 'SmartEye' which are placed in parking spaces and are connected to a 'ParkRight' smartphone app that displays a real-time map and directs the driver to an available space, Discovery News reported.

After a successful trial run, Westminster City Counsel has approved a larger trial, which involves retrofitting parking spots with 3,000 sensors.

According to the Guardian, the city is also considering a prepaid parking card to make the process even faster.

Using these sensors could also help in cutting down pollution.
