Google has reportedly released a tool that allows users to automatically back up photos stored on their PCs to the search giant's social service Google +.

The Google+ Auto Backup offers users to transfer photos from Mac and Windows machines running Picasa software to Google's social service.

According to Cnet, the new tool involves an update to its earlier-era Picasa photo software, which lets OS X and Windows users edit photos and upload them to Google's Picasa Web Albums site.

The new tool, called Google+ Auto Backup, copies photos from users' pictures folder and from cameras or memory cards connected to the computer to Google+ photo service.

Users get to choose the resolution of their pictures for upload from full-resolution images, which count toward Google's online storage limit or downsampled versions a maximum of 2,048 pixels on edge, which can be stored in unlimited quantities.
