The National Football League had secretly filed a lawsuit against singer M.I.A. for showing her middle finger on live TV during the 2012 Super Bowl Halftime show, it has been revealed.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the NFL has demanded 1.5 million dollars from the 'Paper Planes' hit maker, who performed 'Give Me All Your Luvin' with Madonna at the show, for breaching her performance contract and tarnishing the leagues' reputation, the New York Daily News reported.

The legal complaint filed with the American Arbitration Association reads that the dispute concerns a blatant, intentional and calculated attempt by M.I.A., a musical artist, to garner worldwide publicity.

The documents also alleged that the Sri Lankan origin rapper was trying to grab attention for herself by making an offensive gesture to the cameras during the performance.

However, the singer's lawyer, Howard E. King, told the publication that M.I.A is going to go public with an explanation of how ridiculous it was for the NFL and its fans to devote such furor to this incident, while ignoring the genocide occurring in her home country and several other countries.
