NGT issues notice to Delhi Police over non-payment of water bills

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Thursday issued a notice to the Delhi Police over the findings of an RTI application that water bills worth Rs. 232 crore has allegedly not been paid.

The move came after the NGT heard a petition filed by an activist Sanjay Kumar, who submitted his application citing the RTI report.

Meanwhile, the NGT also issued a notice to the Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Government and Delhi Pollution Control Committee over the issue of non-payment of water bill.

An RTI filed by an advocate had earlier revealed that several police stations have not paid their water bills for years and their outstanding charge run in several crore.

Some of the bills are so old that even their late payment charges are in crore.

The RTI Zonal revenue office in Giri Nagar attached outstanding bill of Amar colony and Sriniwas Puri police stations, saying the outstanding figure stands at Rs. 26.26 crore including Rs. 21.33 crore as late fee.

Similarly, the Kalkaji Police Station has an outstanding bill of Rs. 1.74 crore out of which a major portion of Rs. 1.23 crore is late fee.

However, the Delhi Police had earlier claimed that they are yet to cross check the figure as the department has various building and units working under it across the city.
