The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognizance of a complaint that about 20000 people of 103 villages in Chamoli District of Uttarakhand have been deprived of electricity since last 24 years just because of a shortage of 300 meter long power transmission line which has not been laid since 1990.

The Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand calling for a report within four weeks.

The complainant has alleged that it is due to the carelessness of the State Power Corporation and the concerned State authorities that the people of these villages are forced to live in darkness.

They have organised several protests demanding connectivity to the Power Supply Centre which is just 300 meter away from Village Pataal in the district where power transmission lines were laid down in 1990, but there has been no action so far.
