The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a show cause notice to the Uttar Pradesh government asking why suitable amount of interim relief may not be recommended to be paid to each of the four persons who became victim of police atrocity in district Kasganj.

The Commission has given six weeks time for response to its notice.

The Commission has also directed the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh to set the law in motion and submit the details of legal and departmental action taken in the matter.

NHRC's attention was drawn towards the matter after the complaint by victim's wife on May 23, 2013.

She had alleged that her husband, daughter and son were forcibly picked up by some persons claiming to be policemen from their house in district Kasganj. It was found that a Sub-Inspector of the Police

Station in Kasganj, along with his five associates in plain clothes, were responsible for this action.

The Commission had observed that the said police officer misused his power and authority and has taken law in his own hands. The complaint as well as the statement of the petitioner recorded by the inquiry officer discloses commission of cognizable offence.
