The market on Friday fell in early trade as Bank Nifty slipped into red. The Sensex traded down 64.44 points or 0.2 percent at 25815.94, and the Nifty is down 22.85 points or 0.3 percent at 7889.20.
Shares such as Tata Steel, Hindalco, ITC and ONGC were amongst the top gainers while Bharti, BHEL, Lupin, SBI and Hero Moto were the laggards in the Sensex.
The Indian rupee opened lower by 11 paise at 66.50 per dollar against previous close of 66.39.The euro held steady against the dollar after slipping yesterday as traders looked past a European Central Bank meeting and weighed the potential for a more hawkish Federal Reserve next week.
Asia markets opened lower on the final trading day of the week, following losses in US stocks overnight as telecoms led declines amid the latest batch of earnings.
Analysts reckoned some profit-taking at play in the markets today.
