Maintaining the risk-off sentiment in the market, sensex slipped by 429.20 points trading around 25290.38 in the opening.
Nifty, on the other hand, tripped down with 125.25 points at 7693.35.
Oil and Gas sector that performed in the market yesterday saw downfall in the early trade. Hindalco, Vedanta, ONGC, BHEL and SBI are amongst the major losers.
The Indian rupee gave up yesterday's gain.
The currency opened lower by 31 paise at 66.72 per dollar against previous day's close of 66.41.
