Nigerian President declares 'national emergency' over Ebola epidemic

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has announced the Ebola virus disease a 'national emergency' after the World Health Organization announced it as an international health emergency yesterday.

Jonathan urged Nigerians to report the Ebola cases to the nearest hospitals immediately, reports the BBC.

WHO says that 961 people in West Africa have died from Ebola while two of them are from Nigeria.

The United Nations health agency said that the total number of cases were 1,779.

Nigeria is the fourth West African country to get affected by the Ebola disease.

Two U.S. citizens had been reportedly affected by Ebola while working in West Africa. They are now being treated in a hospital in Georgia.

U.S. health authorities said that they were sending resources and personnel to Nigeria.
