Witnesses to Wednesday evening's major car accident in the Greater Noida area of Uttar Pradesh, in which two persons were killed and one was critically injured, said Thursday that the driver of the black Toyota Innova car was squarely responsible for the tragedy.

It may be recalled that a 70-year old woman, her 15-year old granddaughter and her 19-year-old daughter-in-law were hit by the speeding car as they were crossing the road. The first two were declared dead on arrival at the Kailash Hospital, while the daughter-in-law is still battling for her life.

Mohmmad Asghar, a witness, said, "The car came across from Pari Chowk in Noida at great speed and hit these three people as they were crossing the road. The incident happened on Wednesday evening a little after 5 p.m., maybe around 5. 15 p.m. The car hit them first and in panic reversed and ran over them again before driving away from the site. Another car close behind followed the car and returned with car license plate details. It was a light black Toyota Innova car. Its license plate number was HR26AK2604. We have informed the police, but they have not got back to us as yet."

Narayan Singh, a relative of the deceased, told ANI that his mother-in-law Shanti Devi and the other two were going to meet some relatives when they were hit by the speeding car. He said his mother-in-law and the 15-year-old girl had been declared dead, while his wife Geeta is battling for her life.

This is the second hit-and-run case in the Gautam Buddh Nagar area of Noida in the last four days.

On Saturday, a BMW hit three persons, killing one of them, in Noida Sector 24.

Out of the three people who were injured in the BMW hit-and-run case, one man succumbed to his injuries on April 16 at the Safdarjung Hospital here.
