Uber is facing fresh trouble in Brussels as the minister for mobility seeks removal of the company's site offline in Belgium.
According to PC World, Brussels-Capital Region Minister Pascal Smet said that he intends to file a criminal complaint against Uber and notify Apple and Google that the Uber apps in their app stores incite illegal practices.
Smet said that Uber would be considered an illegal service unless it abides by some basic rules in the field of safety, liability and social protection.
The Brussels Commercial Court in April had banned taxi service company Uber from operating in Brussels following a lawsuit filed by another Brussels taxi company Taxis Verts alleging Uber's drivers did not have commercial licenses.
Smet said that apart from the mentioned measures, the Brussels government will also start employing "mystery shoppers" in a bid to increase controls on Uber, which could include confiscating the cars of drivers.
