The United States National Security Agency (NSA) reportedly monitored 60 million phone calls made in Spain in December 2012, Spanish media has claimed.
The Spanish Daily, El Mundo, revealed that the NSA collected data on the phone calls made in the month of December last year, based on the documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, Fox News reports.
According to the report, Spain is the third West European country in less than a week to have a major news publication report on NSA surveillance of phone calls.
Earlier, France and Germany demanded explanations from the U.S. after reports revealing NSA surveillance of phone calls of German Chancellor Angela Merkel were brought to light by the media.
Officials said that the internal review revealed that the NSA had monitored approximately 35 world leaders.
