Describing the recent attacks against people hailing from the North-East as disgraceful, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Saturday called for a change in the attitude and mindsets of the people in order to prevent such incidents from happening again.

"What happened is very disgraceful it should not have happened; we should all go into the depth of it, the reasons why it happened. What can be done to prevent it, what is there to bring about a change in the attitude in the mindsets and the thinking of the people and also of the civil society which could respond to it very very strongly," he said.

Crimes against people of northeastern origin, especially on youths, have been making the news in recent times.

Two youths from Nagaland were beaten up and assaulted by a gang of seven in the Sikanderpur area of Gurgaon on Thursday.

Earlier this week, a 26-year-old engineering student from Manipur was roughed up in Bangalore by a group of men who reportedly abused and then attacked him for not speaking Kannada.

A young woman from Mizoram was also found dead in her flat in South Delhi's Munirka area.
