National Students' Union of India activists on Friday gathered outside the Film and Television Institute of India to protest against its director Prashant Pathrabe demanding his resignation over recent arrest of five students. The NSUI alleged that Pathrabe is incapable of his post and thus, must resign.
"Prashant Pathrabe did not give a proper answer and later on he called the police to arrest the students. We are protesting against Prashant Pathrabe. He should resign as he is not capable of this post," a protesting NSUI worker told ANI here.
The NSUI demanded that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government should stop torturing the FTII students. They also demanded the resignation of TV actor and BJP member Gajendra Chauhan from his post.
"The central government is torturing the students. Our demand is that BJP should not torture them. Gajendra Chauhan must be removed from his post and then the issue of 2008 syllabus must be taken up."
Pathrabe on Wednesday said he had no choice but to have the students arrested after he was illegally confined and verbally assaulted by them.
"I was kept in illegal confinement by the students for about 8-10 hours on Monday night, they (students) formed chains to forcefully block me. I was tortured using interrogation techniques, verbal assault," said Pathrabe.
