US President Barack Obama, while defending CIA Director John Brennan, acknowledged that the US tortured prisoners after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Obama said that the US tortured some folks and admitted to doing things that were contrary to the country's values, the BBC reports.
Obama's confession comes as the Senate prepares to release a report on the CIA's interrogation programme.
He also expressed his full confidence in Brennan even though he admitted the agency had looked up Senate computers during the investigation.
The US president said harsh methods were exercised by officials at the time owing to the "enormous pressure" to prevent another attack on the US in the wake of 9/11, the report added.
