President Barack Obama has nominated former top Pentagon lawyer Jeh Johnson to be his next Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Obama said Johnson has a deep understanding of the threats and challenges that the United States is facing, and that he has earlier helped design and implement many of the policies for keeping the country safe, like dismantling the core of al- Qaeda in the FATA.
The DHS was created in response to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with missions like preventing terrorism and enhancing security, managing the U.S. borders, administering immigration laws, securing cyberspace and ensuring disaster resilience.
