President Barack Obama will be speaking on his administration's evolving counterterrorism policies on Thursday, a White House official has said.
The official told POLITICO that the president will also be discussing the administration's controversial use of drones and renewed plans to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay.
Obama will discuss the country's broad counterterrorism policy, including military, diplomatic, intelligence and legal efforts at National Defense University in Washington, the official said.
The speech comes amid renewed scrutiny of counterterror coordination after April's attack at the Boston Marathon and a hunger strike among more than half of Guantanamo's detainees.
Obama had planned to deliver the speech earlier in May, but it was delayed as the administration worked to respond to recent events and refined its policies.
The official said that Obama will also discuss the policy and legal framework under which the administration has taken action against terrorist threats, including the use of drones and will review their detention policy and efforts to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, the report added.
