To curb illegal mining in Odisha, all mineral transporting trucks have been put under GPS surveillance and the roads as well as mines have been geo-referenced.

This is being done with the help of an IT application set up by the Odisha government for tracking of mineral production, dispatch and value accrual on real time basis through its Integrated Mines and Mineral Management System (i3MS) website.

The online tracking software system has customised all relevant central and state mining rules. Information regarding all stakeholders, dealers and concerned departments have been brought on this portal.

The i3MS software is unique in many respects as it is integrated with the Regional Transport Office, Indian Railways, Commercial Tax, Ports and Treasury.

Odisha is the first state to have such a consolidated and robust IT application in mineral management. The Central government has advised the all states to implement the mining model developed by Odisha government.
