The National Panthers Party (NPP) on Sunday questioned separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani's visit to New York to participate in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers meeting.
"It remains to be seen how Geelani is being allowed to participate in a meeting to be attended by the Foreign Ministers of the Islamic countries when he doesn't hold any official portfolio," NPP leader Harshdev Singh told ANI.
"The passport was issued to him purely on humanitarian grounds because it was said that he is ailing and that he wants to see his daughter in Dubai," he added.
Singh further said Geelani has no locus standi to visit New York and attend the OIC Foreign Ministers meeting.
"This should not be allowed by the Government of India because it would vitiate the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and we strongly oppose to such visit," he claimed.
According to reports, Geelani is all set to participate in the OIC Foreign Ministers meeting in New York starting September 27.
