Three time Olympic gold medallist Nadia Comaneci has lauded Australian swimmer Ian Thorpe for coming out of the closet.
The Romanian gymnast revealed that she was friends with her fellow Olympian, saying that she is happy that Thorpe is happy with his life and everything that he is doing.
Comaneci, who won the three gold medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, said that she has been a good friend with Thorpe, so she has done a lot of things with him in the last couple of years, The Guardian reported.
Comaneci made history by becoming the first female gymnast to attain a perfect score of 10 at an Olympic competition, at the 1976 Montreal Games. She is currently based in Los Angeles with her American Olympic gymnast husband Bart Conner and their eight-year-old daughter.
Comaneci added that she is surprised people remember her after so many years because it has been a long time, claiming that Australians are very good at gymnastics.
