A Pakistan-origin terrorist belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad was neutralized in a brief exchange of fire with the security forces in Khrew area of Awantipora in South Kashmir's Pulwama district, on Sunday. The slain militant has been identified as Waseem, a Pakistani national.
"On a credible input about the presence of terrorists, a swift search operation was launched jointly by the police and security forces in Bathien area of Khrew in Awantipora," a police spokesperson said in a statement.
"As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militant. The fire was retaliated leading to a brief exchange of gunfire," the press release further read. "Consequently, one terrorist was killed in the exchange of fire," added the press release.
The police recovered incriminating materials including arms and ammunition, AK 47 rifle and magazines from the killed militant.
"From the incriminating material recovered, it is learnt that the killed militant is a Pakistani codenamed as Waseem. He was affiliated with proscribed militant outfit JeM," the police said.
A case has been registered. Security forces are currently searching the areas.
