One Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) paramilitary personnel was killed and another critically injured in an exchange of gunfire with terrorists here on Monday.
Television reports said the encounter took place near the city's Naz Cinema complex, and is reportedly still on.
The area has been cordoned off in a bid to neutralise the terrorists.
