Following the remark made by the influential Muslim cleric Kalbe Jawad's about his community being scared of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, politicians jibed that' games are being played within the BJP'.

Muslim cleric Kalbe Jawad on Tuesday had said that the Muslim community is scared of the prime ministerial candidate of the BJP, and suggested some stable candidate for the prime minister's post.

Rajya Sabha MP, Mohammed Adeeb, accused the BJP Chief, Rajnath Singh, of hatching a politically motivated game.

"This whole game is played by the BJP because all those who work for the party know that if Narendra Modi does not become the prime minister, Rajnath Singh is there to fill the position. He (Rajnath Singh ) went to Lucknow especially because Atal Behari Vajpayee has a nice image in Lucknow amongst secular forces and the Muslim community and that is why he insisted on Murli Manohar Joshi being removed from the Lucknow constituency, he went there to meet the Muslim clerics and is creating an impression for himself. So this entire game has been hatched by Rajnath Singh and not by Kalbe Jawad," Adeeb said.

Singh, on Monday had met Muslim clerics to garner the support of their community in Lucknow.

Singh said he met Muslim cleric, Kalbe Jawad, to offer his regard to the religious leader.

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader, Rajendra Chaudhary, claimed that Muslims have suffered more under the BJP than under the Congress party.

"BJP is a political branch of the RSS and the latter considers Muslims as second class citizens; the damage caused to the Muslims by the BJP is much more than that caused by the Congress party," Chaudhary said.

Singh's meeting with Muslim clerics triggered a political debate as BJP had earlier pilloried the Congress party chief, Sonia Gandhi, for meeting a Muslim delegation led by Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari of India's largest mosque, Jama Masjid, and accused her of spreading communalism.
