The ex-servicemen on Sunday held a candle light vigil here at India Gate demanding the implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) policy.

They also marched from Jantar Mantar to India Gate in protest against the delay in implementation of OROP.

"Why doesn't Prime Minister make it clear with transparency that what are the technical difficulties in implementing OROP... The grandparents of 50 percent servicemen have retired from armed forces, if they think servicemen won't be affected by this, they are wrong," said defence expert PK Sehgal.

The ex-servicemen had threatened to intensify their agitation after Prime Minister Modi said during his Independence Day address that the decision on the OROP Scheme would be taken soon.

One Rank, One Pension ( OROP) scheme has been a long-standing demand of nearly three-million ex-servicemen and war widows in the country. It seeks to ensure that a uniform pension is paid to defence personnel, who retire at the same rank with the same length of service irrespective of their date of retirement.
