Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Friday said the government's main target is to completely finish the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit).
"We are one step ahead, last night I visited Assam with my senior colleague Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. We have decided to launch an operation. Our target is to completely finish the NDFB(S) faction," said Rijiju.
Chief of Army Staff, General Dalbir Singh Suhag, earlier in the day told the media after meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in the national capital that operations against militants in Assam will be intensified. The Home Minister reviewed with him the situation in Assam, arising from violence in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar.
The Centre has taken a tough stance against NDFB (S), saying no talks will be held with the group.
Over 70 people including women and children have lost their lives in recent violence in Kokrajhar, Sonitpur and Chirang districts. Several injured persons are undergoing treatment.
