Pakistan has condemned the recent terror attack on the Express Media Group offices and there is an outrage in the nation over lack of security for the journalist community.
The office of the Pakistani media group Express News in Karachi came under an attack on Monday when gunfire and two explosions injured three people, but guards prevented "unidentified men" from entering the building.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid slammed the assault, saying that such cowardly acts cannot dampen the spirit of independent media and freedom of expression in the country, the Express Tribune reports.
Opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah said that the government should make proper security arrangements for the media and that the culprits behind the attack should be brought to justice.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) chief Imran Khan said that the Express Media Group has always stood up for transparency, equality and rule of law in the country, and this attack is an effort to curtail its free voice.
The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has convened an emergency meeting to decide the strategy for the media groups.
