The Australian media has claimed that the national selectors may not have been reading from the Argus review when they picked the squad for the first Ashes Test.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the Argus review document is receding in relevance each day.

The report said that George Bailey's selection ignored the premium placed on first-class performances, set out in the document, Alex Doolan is entitled to feel unlucky, and he can blame his non-selection on the rain.

The Tasmanian batsman was denied a proper chance to bat his way into the team by the weather in Hobart for last week's Australia A game, but produced a match-winning century in the first Sheffield Shield game of the season against NSW, the report said.

Bailey appears a risk-averse selection, the report added.
