The Australian media has revealed that power, money and control are three important factors for which Australia, England and India have collaborated to propose a new model of governance of world cricket.
News.com.au explained the International Cricket Council (ICC) statement outlining the kinds of changes that are being considered, and has broken them down into three important points- money, power and control of the game.
The report mentioned that Australia, England and India would be permanent members of a new five-nation 'Executive Committee', with other countries sharing the two remaining positions, which would effectively run the sport.
The report further said that although the logic is that more money should go to the few nations, which actually generate cash for the sport, however, the new arrangement would benefit Australia and be a bigger boost for India, which brings in about 80 per cent of cricket's revenue.
Explaining some of the other points, the report mentioned that 'poor' teams like Ireland, Canada or Kenya could have the chance to play Test cricket under the proposed changes, adding that plans to replace the Champions Trophy, a 50-over tournament, with a global Test competition would be quietly killed off.
The report also said that the new regime would return to a system of bilateral tours, agreed upon by the two nations involved, which could mean more games against South Africa and fewer against Bangladesh.
