The Australia media feared that the new changes to the controversial Decision Review System (DRS) could aggravate the frivolous use of the DRS if teams still have extra reviews before they are replenished.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) had announced the topping up of the reviews with another two after 80 overs in an innings in Test matches, to be trialled in games from October 1, including the return Ashes series.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, under the present system, both teams are limited to two incorrect challenges per innings, adding that the extra reviews would have allowed Australia to challenge umpire Aleem Dar's decision to reprieve Stuart Broad at Trent Bridge when the ball deflected off his bat via Brad Haddin's glove at first slip
The report mentioned that the incident, which created so much uproar, happened during the 118th over of England's second innings in the Ashes opener, by which time Australian captain Michael Clarke had already used up his side's two reviews.
The governing body will also consider introducing the Real-Time Snickometer, 'noting that most of the contentious decisions relate to faint edges' and concerns over the reliability of Hot Spot, the report added.
