Australian selectors are reportedly considering whether or not to select Ashes debutant Ashton Agar for the upcoming limited-over series against England, which is leading the Ashes series 3-0.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, with one Test still to play, a dead rubber at the Oval starting on August 21, the selectors will announce the squads for two Twenty20s and six ODIs in the UK (five against England and one against Scotland).

The report further said that the selectors are still deciding whether or not to use the teenaged Agar and extend his English adventure to as much international cricket as possible, or allow him to go back home to prepare for the domestic season with Western Australia.

According to the report, Agar was picked ahead of his time for the first two Tests to surprise England, adding that his batting heroics in the first Test hid the fact that for the moment, the main spinner's role is too big an ask for him at Test level.

However, the report mentioned that the selectors might regard Agar as a pick for the future over the incumbent Xavier Doherty, who has a solid ODI record, for the home World Cup, which is 18 months away.

The next phase of the England tour will be Darren Lehmann's first as national coach in the shorter formats, the report added.
