Australia's rising speedster Pat Cummins picked up a side strain during their World Cup tie against New Zealand, causing Michael Clarke's men to suffer yet another setback in their tournament campaign.
Cummins being sidelined with the side strain means that Josh Hazlewood would likely play in Wednesday's match against Afghanistan at the WACA, but Cricket Australia (CA) spokesman said that scans showed 'nothing serious' and there was genuine hope he would only miss the one game.
A CA statement said that Cummins felt a niggle in his left side following game against New Zealand, adding that the paceman had precautionary scans which showed nothing serious, News.com.au reported.
The statement also said that Cummins would be monitored by medical staff this week to determine his availability for this week's matches.
Australia have already had to deal with injuries to Michael Clarke and James Faulkner in this tournament and a third problem to one of the fast bowlers throws another spanner in the works.
Cummins bowled solidly in his World Cup debut against New Zealand in Auckland, taking 2-38 from 6.1 overs, the report added.
