An Australian teenager has scooped the title of 2013's Rubik's Cube World Champion after participating in a gruelling three-day event that involved 575 competitors from 37 countries.

The event, which was held at the Riviera Hotel 'n' Casino in Las Vegas, saw some of the world's fastest Rubik's Cube solvers competing in over 15 classic and non-traditional official cubing events.

17-year-old Feliks Zemdegs scored a fastest average time of 8.18 seconds for solving the classic 3x3 cube, with a fastest single solve of 7.36 seconds, Sky News reported.

Zemdegs also won the 4x4 and the One Handed 3x3 competitions.

Netherlands native, Mats Valk, who presently holds the world record for the fastest single solve in 5.55 seconds, followed Zemdegs in the second position in the 3x3 competition with an average time of 8.65 seconds.

Meanwhile, Germany's Sebastian Weyer concluded the top three with an average time of 8.86 seconds.
