Former Radio One DJ Chris Denning has been sentenced to 13 years behind bars after confessing to sexually abusing 24 boys over a 20-year period, including one allegedly at evil colleague Jimmy Savile's house.

The 73-year-old serial paedophile pleaded guilty to 36 counts of indecent assaults and four counts of indecency with a child between 1967 and 1987, the Daily Star reported.

During sentencing, Judge Alistair McCreath said that Denning, who subjected the victims to "inappropriate and utterly depraved" abuse, groomed all of those boys, who were, for the most part, in their early teens although some of them were younger.

McCreath added that Denning used his own fame, his acquaintance with others who were famous, many of them now to be described more as notorious than as famous, his familiarity with the music industry, his possession of computers and computer games and other devices to win their trust and misplaced admiration.

McCreath continued that Denning gave them alcohol and drugs, to some of them he gave money, showed them pornographic material and introduced them to inappropriate sexual behaviour by making it seem normal and exciting.

He added that it is not to be forgotten that all of this suffering was inflicted by Denning without thought for anything other than his own selfish pleasure.

Peter Watt, director of National Services at the NSPCC praised the courage of the victims for speaking out against their attacker, adding that Denning is a calculating and devious serial sex offender who preyed on children for decades.

Watt added that Denning grossly abused children's trust and exploited their vulnerability in a despicable way, hence, this sentence rightly reflects the seriousness of his crimes and hopefully those he abused will find some solace in that.

Watt continued that it is important to note that it is the bravery of his victims in speaking up that has brought Denning to justice.
