Indian tennis ace Leander Paes along with French partner Jeremy Chardy crashed out of the Australian Open after suffering a straight sets defeat in the opening round of men's double event on Wednesday.
The Indo-French pair were beaten by Colombian-Canadian duo of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah Maksoud 3-6, 4-6, thereby making an early exit from the first major of the season.
Meanwhile, Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Gilles Muller from Luxembourg breeze into the second round after bouncing back from a set-down defeat to seal a 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-4 triumph over Australian pair of Alex Bolt and Andrew Whittington.
