Veteran Indian star Leander Paes and his Czech partner Radek Stepanek have sailed into the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, while seventh seeded pair of India's Rohan Bopanna and his Pakistani partner Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi endured a shocking defeat to exit the tournament on Sunday.
Fifth-seeded Paes and Stepanek defeated Paes' Indian counterpart Yuki Bhambri and his New Zealand partner Michael Venus 6-3, 6-2 in the pre-quarterfinal within just 65 minutes.
Meanwhile, the 12th-seeded British-Filipino duo of Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot beat Bopanna and Qureshi 6-4, 7-6(1) in the top half of the draw to set up a potential quarter-final duel with US top seeds and brothers Bob and Mike Bryan.
