Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif, visited the Northern Light Infantry (NLI) Regimental Centre in Gilgit on Wednesday and interacted with its officers and soldiers.
On arrival, General Sharif laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada (Martyrs' Monument).
According to an ISPR release, he then addressed officers and soldiers of NLI Regiment, and appreciated the high state of morale and the operational preparedness being maintained by troops posted along the most challenging front line of the country.
Later, General Sharif met with war veterans and pinned badges to formally install Lieutenant General Ikram-Ul-Haq as new Colonel Commandant of the NLI Regiment.
The Northern Light Infantry, which was originally a paramilitary force, was made a regular regiment of the Pakistan Army after its achievements in the 1999 Kargil War against India.
