The Pakistan Army will be asked to maintain law and order in national capital Islamabad from August 1, said Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday.

The Dawn quoted Khan, as further saying that the army would have control over the city for a period of three months.

Khan said his ministry has sought the army's services under Article 245 of the Constitution in anticipation of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's (PTI's) "Long March" to Islamabad.

Earlier, sources had said that the Nawaz Sharif Government was mulling over invoking Article 245 of the Constitution to summon the army in all major cities of the country.

Sources had added that the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan was also being carried out under Article 245 of the Constitution.
